PARENT AND CUSTODIAN  COUNSELLING SEMINARS



The school organizes annual daytime events for parents and educators to delve into problems confronting today's student.  Specialists in the field psychology, education and speech therapy provide valuable guidance on how to proceed with working through a child's problems, issues and concerns.  The approach taken by the school insures that students are getting the attention and care they need both on campus and at home.
 
 

EDUCATION SEMINARS:  2000/2001/2002/2003/2009


 
The school has undertaken the role of insuring that the teaching methodology and standard course books used by the school meets the on-going needs of the evolving world of education and study programs challenging our students.  Under the general title The School, we follow with particular interest not only the events as they affect our teachers, students and parents but also all of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki and other prefectures.  The seminars were organized in participation with Ianos (with the exception of the 2009 seminar) and covered a breadth of issues relative to education today.  A number of distinguished scientists and authors were available to present their views on education.  Aspa Hasioti was responsible for science-related agenda topics.

School 2009 - Education and Language (15-16 May 2009)
 
Mandoulides Schools, as part of the school's celebration of thirty years in education, organized a conference on education under the title School 2009: Education and Language.  
 

In cooperation with government ministers, members of parliament, representatives of the State, educators along with hundreds of professors and teachers from universities and high schools and friends of Mandoulides Schools, the school hosted a two-day conference entitled:  School 2009.  The venue for the event was the Cultural Center of Mandoulides Schools and was held on 15-16 May 2009.  The conference was organized as part of the school's thirty year anniversary celebrating three decades of innovative educational services to the students and parents of the greater Thessaloniki area.  The weekend's activities were launched on the evening of Friday, 15 May, a presentation dedicated the  founder of Mandoulides Schools, Mr. Evangelos Mantoulidis, marked the opening ceremony.  Colleagues, friends, partners in education and students spoke fondly of the late founder's life and work.
 
Savvas Anastasiadis, Prefecture Councilman and President of Transport Management for the Seaport, spoke affectionately on The Man:  Evangelos Mantoulidis.
The Regional Director of Primary and Secondary Education for Central Macedonia, Mr. George Karatasios, delivered a speech on The Contribution to Education by Evangellos Mantoulidis.
Mr. Nikos Karatzas, President of the International Council of Ianos Bookstores AE. spoke about His Friend. Mr. Sarantos Kargakos, Historian and author, gave a detailed account about The Pedagogic Works of Evangelos Mantoulidis.
The Vice President of Anatolia College, George Lysaridis, Mathematician, recounted The Man, The Friend, Evangelos Mantoulidis.  Eva Tsoukalidou, a graduate of Harvard University and Aristotle University School of Law and a 1998 graduate of Mandoulides Schools, talked of The Standard Bearer - Evangelos Mantoulidis.  Concluding with was  Professor of Modern Greek History at Aristotle University Ioannis Hasiotis.  He remarked on The Ideology and Deeds of the Education Course of Evangells Mantoulidis.  Closing comments were given by the Minister of Macedonia-Thrace Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, Prefecture Council Chairman Panyiotis Psomiadis and the President of Mantoulides Schools Mrs. Aikaterini Mantoulidou.
The ceremony closed with a touching rendition of a symphony by the singer and musician Loudovikos of Anogeia, whom Mr. Mantoulides regarded as an exceptional man and artist.
 
On Saturday morning, 16 May, the conferences opened on the topic:  Education and Language.  The keynote speakers included esteemed scientists and learned men of letters.  The conference was opened by the former Minister of Education Ms. Marietta Yannakou, who spoke on The European Perspective on Greek Language.  Dr. Ioannis Kazazis, Professor of Classical Philology at Aristotle University and Vice President of the Center for Greek Language, delivered a lecture on:
The Routes of Words:  Literature and Civilization in the Secondary School  Curriculum.   

The first session was co-chaired by Mr. George Karatasios, Regional Director of Elementary and Secondary Education for Central Macedonia, and Ms. Aspa Hasioti, General Director and Principal of the Second Junior High School.  The session was closed by Mr. George Papanastasiou, Assistant Professor in the Division of Language and Linguistics at Aristotle University and Director of The Institute of Modern Greek Studies, The Manolis Triantafillidis Foundation.  Dr. Papanastasiou spoke on the topic:  The Greek Language - Educational Problems.
The second session was co-chaired by Ioannis Kazazis and Theodoulos Tapanidis, the Director for Secondary Education for the Eastern Prefecture of Thessaloniki.
Christos Tsolakis, Professor Emeritus of Modern Greek Langauage at Aristotle University, gave a speech on Language and Education.  Christos Yannaras, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy from Panteio University delivered a lecture entitled:  Language-The Homeland of the Greeks.  
The third session of the conference was co-chaired by Ioannis Kazazis and Kariofillis Vyziotis, Director of Elementary Education for the Eastern  Prefecture of Thessaloniki.  Speakers were Thedoros Ziakas, author, who spoke on the topic:  Modern Nullification and Education.  The following speaker was Apostolos Apostolidis whose topic was entitled:  In Praise of Silence.  The conference closed with an interesting discussion about the role of modern Greek education.  The farewell address was delivered by the Deputy Minister of the Interior Mr. Konstantinos Gioulekas
Ms. Aspa Hasioti, General Director and Principal of the Second Junior High School, was responsible for the organization and co-ordination of the conference.  The two-day conference was attended by several noteworthy guests including:  Stavros Kalafatis, Minister for Macedonia-Thrace; Konstantinos Gioulekas, Deputy Minister of the Interior; Panayiotis Psomiadis, Council Chairman of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki; Theodoros Karaoglou, George Orfanos and Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Members of Parliament representing Thessaloniki; Sotiris Kouvelas, former Minister; Theodoros Papadopoulos, Mayor of Thermi; Ignatios Kaitezidis, Mayor of Panorama; Kostas Margaritis, politician.  The conference concluded under the auspices of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki.

DAYTIME SEMINAR: ORGANIZATION AND OPERATION  THROUGH COOPERATION FOR THE GREEK SCHOOL

The school, along with a team of researchers, delved into the issues surrounding approaches to cooperative teaching.   Specialists from Aristotle University who study and research the field of pre-school education were invited to contribute invaluable expertise.  Also in attendance were representatives from the regional directorate for primary and secondard education and the Central Macedonia Office of Education.  The conference addressed educators in kindergarten education.
 

CONFERENCE: TEACHING THE  PURE SCIENCES: BUILDING  BRIDGES OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN  PRIMARY AND ELEMENTARY  EDUCATION (7 FEBRARY2009)

 

The Greek committee for the World Organization for Pre-School Education, in cooperation with Mandoulides Schools, opened a conference on the subject of Teaching the Pure Sciences:  Building Bridges of Communication Between Elementary and Secondary Education.  The conference addressed educators from kindergarten through secondary levels.
 

PERSONNEL CONFERENCES

 
During the 2008-2009 school year, the faculty and administrative staff of the schools took part in a conference focused on fulfilling their transformation as educators and support staff.  The conderence was co-sponsored by the Cosmos Advisory Agency.
 

NEW TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM

 
Mandoulides Schools believes in the value of evloving methods of teaching and learning all disciplines of study in the modern day classroom.
To put that belief into action, the school organized a conference for all academic and administrative personnel as a means of bringing them into contact with the latest advances.  Basic issues of computer use, automated office and the interactive whiteboard  (e-beam) applications were covered by the school's team of computer scientists.  
 

LEARNING DIFFICULTIES FOR DYSLEXIC CHILDREN

 
In recognition of the special needs of dyslexic pupils, and in the spirit of affording them a learning experience equal to their fellow students, the school invited an expert on dyslexia to speak to and with faculty members from all three scools.  Mr. G. Pavlidis, a professor from the University of Macedonia gave an insightful and worthwhile address on the topic of learning difficulties for dyslexic children.
 

THEATRICAL GAMES

 
Teachers of the kindergarten school attended a seminar on the use of theatre as a medium for teaching and developing creative expression.
The conference, Theatre Games after Music, was most beneficial to our teachers.......and the kindergardeners.
 

SEMINARS FOR ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL

 
The administrative staff at all levels attended a seminar designed to enhance their verbal and telephone courtesy skills.  
 

PARENT SEMINARS

 
Mandoulides Schools understands the concerns parent have when their little ones are about to embark on their first steps into the world of formal education.  Therefore, the school held a series of conferences intended to help parents allay those concerns and feel confident in the care and provision their children will receive at the school.  Parents of pre-school, kindergarden and first grade elementary students were invited to attend any or all seminars.  The seminars were spearheaded by experts in the fields of education, child and developmental psychology and speech therapy.  Listed below are the seminars:
 
- Evidence of Pre-School and Early Elementary Learning Difficulties - Early Diagnosis and Preventive Intervention, given by Eleni Bondi, Special Education Lecturer at Aristotle University School of Medicine.
 
- Our Children: Victims and Perpatrators - Aggressive Behavior in Pre-School and Early Elementary Ages, given by Ipsipili Kypraiou, School Psychologist and Family Therapist.
-  The Importance of Behavioral Limits and the Limits of Care in the Psychological Development of Young Children, given by Maria Hatzipantazi, Psychologist, certified in Psychological Counseling and Family Thearapy.
-  Stages of Language Development and Speech and Common Disorders, given by Niki Hatzigeorgiou, Speech Therapist, member of The American Society of Speech and Hearing Disorders.
